The Carer Knowledge Exchange defines carers as individuals who provide care and support to a family member or friend who lives with a disability, mental illness, alcohol or drug dependency, chronic condition, terminal illness or who is frail due to age. Paid care workers, formal volunteers or parents, foster or kinship carers of children without additional needs are not the focus. The Carer Knowledge Exchange defines ‘knowledge’ broadly, as a combination of research evidence, practice-based expertise, and learnings stemming from the lived experience of caring.

Knowledge exchange is about the sharing of ideas, evidence and experiences between people with different perspectives, such as carers, researchers, policy makers and practitioners. Knowledge exchange builds understanding and generates innovative solutions to shared concerns.

Research publications and resources can be submitted through the My Research page. To submit research, you will need to create an account. Once you have created your account, login and click 'Add a publication / resource' to complete the submission form.

The Carer Knowledge Exchange Research Library contains a growing collection of research about carers and caring, with a focus on Australian research. This includes publications and resources developed by researchers, community organisations, government agencies and other authors who have systematically collected information about, or from, carers that aims to improve understanding and awareness.

There are two main ways you can find publications and resources in the Research Library. 1) By using one or more search fields, e.g. Keywords, Author name, Year of publication. 2) By browsing the collection by Theme and Sub-theme.

The Carer Knowledge Exchange research library offers users the option to further refine their initial search results via the ‘filter my results’ feature. To use this feature, please search for a key word using the ‘search for a resource’ feature, then add additional key words in the filter section and select ‘apply filters’.

In these cases, the Carer Knowledge Exchange Research Library contains summary information and key findings, however the link included may not lead to the full document. If an author contact is listed, you can contact the author to request a copy of the full article.
